"Pass the Hat"
Directed by Cassie Nordgren
Choreography by Rob Perry
Additional choreography by Cassie Nordgren
In fall of 2014, one of Cassie's dance teachers, Rob Perry, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. With the help of over fifty of his former students, Cassie produced this video to raise money for his treatment. The video raised over $12,000 for Rob.
Some "fun facts" about the video: This number is compiled of three numbers choreographed and taught at Castro Valley Performing Arts (CVPA) by Rob between the years of 1998-2003, and feature a lot of his original choreography. Besides working at CVPA, Rob was the coach of the National Championship Castro Valley High School Dance Team. He was rarely seen at any rehearsal with an "iced, venti, white chocolate, toffee nut mocha, no whip" Starbucks drink in his hand. The dancers in the video range in age from 12-40 years old and learned the choreography off of YouTube links sent out over the month of December. They met from all over the country to film for one day in December. Rob Perry passed away on July 30th, 2016. He said he watched this video often throughout his treatment.
